Planting a tree takes thorough planning. Always keep at least 4 m away from any construction in the garden. Determine where the sewage pipes are and never plant a willow, poplar, and sycamore or mulberry tree near them. Their roots will grow through almost anything in search of water.
Choose a tree with a main root system, i.e. where the thick roots grow downward instead of horizontally. These roots won’t damage the house or garden walls. Always make sure of the way a tree grows before you plant it.
How can I be certain that my tree’s roots will not at a later stage damage my house or garden wall or cause a blockage of the sewage pipes?
