Notes: Vinca major is a particularly easy to grow tough groundcover. It is vigorous and will soon spread rapidly by means of rooting stems to form a "carpet" which just goes on growing and growing. It can be relied upon to brighten up beds and borders, particularly under large trees and shrubs where it is hard to establish other plants. Since they are frost-hardy, Periwinkles can be grown almost anywhere, as long as they are kept moist at all times. Useful for flat areas, embankments, containers or hanging baskets or almost anywhere else. Growing happily in almost any soil, this Periwinkle prefers a rather shady position, although it will also grow in a fair amount of sun, provided it gets enough water. It should always be watered in dry weather. Usually increased by divisions planted out in deep soil. These then send out a mass of suckering shoots which take root wherever they rest on the ground so that the spreading process starts all over again.
Vinca major has green leaves and blue flowers.
